the empire assembly of god church was established in 1983. it is a product of the church planting and development (cp&d) program within the assemblies of god organization. with the help of cp&d and donations from members of the empire community the church was able to lease a small building that had been a gas station. in just a short time the lord blessed empire assembly with enough financing to purchase the property where it is located today.
through the years the lord has continued to bless the congregation at empire. in the late 1980's the membership had out grown the original facilities. this prompted the building of a new sanctuary that would accommodate 200 people. but the lord was not through with just a new sanctuary. at the beginning of the new millennium plans were finalized and construction was completed on the empire family life center in 2001. the center features a gymnasium, walking track, and classrooms for the missionettes, royal rangers, and youth programs.
the lord has also blessed the church with the ability to sponsor several of the missionaries in the assemblies of god for many years. these missionaries are called to places like thailand, vietnam, south korea, germany, and ecuador. empire assembly is also very mindful of its local community and its cullman district. for the past several years empire has sponsored programs like cp&d and teen challenge that plant churches and help young men and women all over the state of alabama.
since the establishment of the empire assembly of god church it has had good leadership from the elder members. the fact that bro. donald westbrook has been the pastor from 1983 to the present has provided stability in leadership. however, the lord continues to bless the congregation with new people in roles of leadership. in 2004 bro. eric nail was called by god to be a youth minister. he has been a blessing to the youth at empire and a consistent role model for them. in 2006 he completed the course work and is now a licensed pastor in the assemblies of god organization.
with all that the lord has done and is doing at the empire assembly of god we are still looking for a continued outpouring of god's spirit and blessings. we boldly look to the future with belief and hope for the coming of the lord jesus christ. for where there is no vision, the people perish.
